Authorities of the northern city of Ha Long have suspended a golf course project which has resulted in a mud overflowing into local houses after heavy rain on Wednesday.

According to city people’s committee vice chairman Hoang Quang Hai, the heavy rain during the early morning of August 3 caused thousands of cubic metres of mud from the hill where FLC Group's golf course is being built to flow into many houses in Ha Trung Ward.

Local residents complained that this was the third such incident happened during the golf course's construction over the past month.

The mud has covered many the furniture and drainage of many houses.

Hai said that FLC Group has been requested to halt the project implementation to deal with the mud overflow and ordered to adopt measures to avoid the same incident.

The firm will build embankments and implement a five-fold expansion in the project's drainage system. Once these landslide and drainage measures are approved by local authorities, the firm could be allowed to continue the project.
