The Hanoi Department of Taxation has just made public the names of seven real estate companies which are responsible for tax arrears of VND55bn, equal to 36% to total debts owed by the companies in the city.

Over 145 companies owe VND150.50bn (USD6.74m) in tax arrears, land rental fees and other fees to the city.

The companies that are incurring the biggest tax arrears from VND10bn (USD448,000) to 20bn are in real estate sector. For example the Techco TSQ Company owes VND20bn, Thang Long Real Estate Company owes VND9.40bn and Kad Vietnam Company owes VND9bn. Xu Doai Company and Bac Thang Long Hanoi Urban Development and Investment JSC owe VND6.80bn and VND3.20bn respectively.

Real estate companies are incurring huge tax debts

There are also nine companies owing huge amount of land rental fees but the most notable ones are Tien Thanh Construction and Trading Company with VND4bn (USD179,000) and House Construction and Trading JSC with VND2.5bn.

Hanoi Department of Taxation has published debtors' names 10 times since the beginning of this year. On July 31, the department announced a list of 185 companies owing over VND215bn (USD9.64m) in tax arrears.

The move has helped to reduce the amount of tax arrears and prevent tax evasion as companies have rapidly attempted to pay off their debts quicker following each announcement. The department is also co-operating with other agencies to urge companies to pay taxes. Most companies haven't been named twice on the list.
