Authorities of the central province of Thua-Thien Hue have decided to revoke the land of a VND-70 billion (USD3.3 million) water park project which has been left unused for many years.

Haco Hue Ltd. Co’s 5,000 square-metre Ho Thuy Tien water park opened in 2006, But in 2011, it was shut due to losing money. The developer then announced that they would “embark on a new project.”

In October 2014, the province approved a plan to develop the water park into a luxury ecotourism site, but Haco Hue was financially unable to carry out the project and requested that the province look for a new developer.

According to Phan Van Thong, Director of the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment said the water park developer violated land laws related to its failure to put the project into use as planned, so the land would be revoked.

Left idle for many years, the slides are covered in leaves and palm trees grow through their spirals, while the pools are filled with murky algae-infested waters. Meanwhile, the water park's aquarium features a huge dragon, which is now covered in rust and peeling paint.

Several foreign newspapers published articles about the place, including the Daily Mail and Huffington Post, describing it as having an eerie atmosphere.
