Vietnam Airlines transported 20.6 million passengers in 2016, up 19% on-year, putting the airline among the top 4 carriers with the highest passenger throughput in the year, according to a report by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA).

The report showed that the other three carriers on the list were Malaysia’s Air Asia, Indonesia’s Lion Air and Garuda Indonesia.

Vietnam Airlines has also been voted as a Golden Brand Name and Most Favourite Carrier respectively recently by readers of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper and Ho Chi Minh City Television.

The carrier was also listed among top ten successful ASEAN firms in China by the China-ASEAN Business Council.

Last year, Vietnam Airlines won the awards Asia's Leading Airline (Economy Class) and “Asia's Cultural Airline” at the World Travel Awards.
