Vietnamese airlines raise flight prices
Airtravel agent in Vietnam said they had received notices from Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air and Jetstar Pacific Airlines that the fares would be raised.
Vietnam Airlines said they would maintain low flight fares for various domestic routes. The ticket prices for flights to Buon Me Thuot, Dien Bien and from HCM City to Hai Phong and Vinh City will stay the same.
Vietjet Air has increased the service fee from VND100,000 to VND140,000 (USD6.14) for domestic routes and from VND120,000 to VND160,000 for international routes from March 22. Seat selection service fee is increased from VND80,000 to VND90,000 while the luggage charge is raised from VND10,000 to VND20,000 for domestic routes.
Jetstar Pacific Airlines already increased the system management fee from VND100,000 to VND130,000 (USD5.7) from March 15.
A representative of Vietnam Airlines said that it was a regular procedure to review prices yearly based on market demand and in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
Meanwhile, Vietjet Air said that raising the service fees wouldn’t dramatically increase its flight prices. In the past, the airline had lowered the ticket prices on various routes so when the service fees increase, the overall charges don't change much.
Leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam suggested that fair competition was the main motive for the hike and price adjustment. Flight prices haven't changed at all even when the fuel prices increased sharply. On the contrary, the prices actually decreased because of tough competition from both domestic and foreign airlines.
There is ceiling limit for the flight prices but currently, the highest price of domestic airlines in Vietnam is only 80% of the ceiling price. In early March, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam asked the Ministry of Transport to adjust the prices of a number of airline services. The flight prices may continue to rise in the coming time.
