Hanoi chairman Nguyen Duc Chung has said that local enterprises can refuse unnecessary inspections by authorities during a meeting with businesses on May 19.

Do Van Thang, representative of Zamil Vietnam Company said since early of the year, they had been inspected every month which interrupted their work. The firm wasn’t opposed to being inspected but said such inspections shouldn’t hinder their work. He hoped that there will be only one inspection per year and the management of the industrial zone must set up the schedule.

"The inspection teams rarely have anything constructive to say. They mostly just dig around looking for mistakes to apply fines. If we don't greet them, they will return next time with higher fines," he said.

Phan Thanh Hai from Thach That and Quoc Oai Industrial Zone, also said their work was interrupted when staff were forced to take days off for time-consuming bureaucratic paperwork. She hoped the authorities could set up service points to deal with problems related to the ID cards or driving licences at the industrial zones. Or alternatively actually open on Sundays.

Workers at Quang Minh Industrial Zone also said it's difficult to meet with officials and complete their procedures quickly.

Nguyen Duc Chung approved the idea to have only one inspection per year. This was also the prime minister's directive.

"My wife is also a businesswoman and has been since 1995 so I understand about the inspections," he said.

He went on to say that firms can refuse the inspection if it happens too often. Firms can call the city's hotline for help or feedback.

About the cumbersome procedures, Chung promised that he would ask local authorities and the police to go to the industrial zones every week to deal with all requests.
