The first Vietnamese Coffee Day will take place on December 10 in the central highlands city of Da Lat in Lam Dong province, with celebrations launching the day being organized from December 9 to 11 in one of Vietnam’s “coffee kingdoms” by the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee and the Vietnam Coffee and Cacao Association.

December 10 was selected as Vietnamese Coffee Day by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

With the theme “New Development Stage for Vietnam’s Coffee Industry”, Vietnamese Coffee Day includes an international seminar on the development of the country’s coffee industry, with the participation of organizations and entrepreneurs from the world’s leading coffee countries, an exhibition introducing high quality coffee products from famous coffee plantations nationwide, and tours to coffee production and processing areas using high technology in Lam Dong.

Visitors will have the chance to learn about the coffee culture of different areas and regions in Vietnam, while producers and enterprises can distribute market information, share experiences, and seek business partners. Local businesses can also promote their products to local and international consumers.

Vietnam’s central highlands has over 450,000 ha of coffee trees, accounting for over 90 per cent of the country’s total. Lam Dong cultivates over 155,000 ha with output of about 430,000 tons. With a favorable temperate climate, Da Lat is ideal for producing top coffee products, with its coffee always selling at much higher prices than coffee from elsewhere.

According to figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam exported 1.8 million tons of coffee beans in 2016, raking in $3.2 billion. The country is currently the world’s second-largest coffee exporter, after Brazil.
