Nguyen Van Cao, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, made the request at a meeting with local businesses on January 5.

Cai urged the provincial Department of Transport to stop Grab taxi service immediately without waiting for the Ministry of Transport’s instruction.

Despite not being in the list of localities where Grab services are piloted, the firm has launched GrabCar and GrabTaxi in Hue City. It has even opened an office at 31 Hoang Quoc Viet Street with a hotline phone number.

Following this, the province’s Department of Transport asked the Ministry of Transport for measures to deal with the situation.

Under the prime minister’s decision, Grab taxi services are only being piloted in Hanoi, HCM City, Danang, Khanh Hoa and Quang Ninh.

Many taxi companies in Thua Thien-Hue Province, including Taxi Mai Linh Hue Company and Taxi Thanh Cong JS Company, have asked local authorities to deal with the problem.

According to the companies, some of their drivers had decided to work for Grab, meaning they would use the Grab application while still working for taxi companies.
