Danang residents protest coastal tourism project
People in the central city of Danang have opposed a tourism project which has blocked access to the shore.
The tourism project located in the Nam O Beach area in Lien Chieu District, which is invested by Trung Thuy group, was approved by local authorities.
The project investor has set up a two-metre fence at Nam O beach to zone the project, which has blocked the road to the sea.
Bui Thi Hue, a local resident, said that the blank plot zoned by the project was a football pitch of people from three surrounding villages.
The area also has rocks which attract many tourists who come to take photos. “The rocks help to calm the tides. We don’t want that destroyed by the project,” another resident Nguyen Thi Chin said.
Nguyen Huu Thiet, vice chairman of Lien Chieu District People’s Committee, said that the land has been allocated to Trung Thuy Group, however, the project has not yet been carried out, so where to be used as the way for people to the sea has not yet been discussed.
"We will work with the investor about the special planning of the project, including the access to the sea” Thiet added.
He, however, noted that the project area was very dangerous due to currents. It is also near a forest, so tourists camping there could accidentally cause a fire in the forest.
