Vietnam Airlines announces big first half profits

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has announced to earn pre-tax profits of roughly VND1.92 trillion (USD82.42 million) in the first half of this year, up 87% on-year, doubling the set target.

During the period, Vietnam Airlines conducted 72,800 flights with its rate of On Time Performance (OTP) reaching 90% with a total number of 13.7 million passengers, up 4% compared to the same period of last year.

Cargo transport was estimated at 167,000 tonnes, representing a year-on-year rise of 8.5%, meeting nearly 100% of the target for domestic and international markets.

Vietnam Airlines’ total consolidated revenue reached VND49.8 trillion, while the parent company’s revenue was estimated at nearly VND36.3 trillion.

The carrier saw the higher number of passengers who conducted self-check-in procedures with the figure estimated at 39%, 42.4% and 29.2% at Noi Bai International Airport, Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Danang International Airport respectively.

The firm has reduced the staff number, aiming to focus on restructuring human resources and improving labour productivity. By late June this year, the carrier had 6,685 employees, down 2% on-year.

Meanwhile, the airline employee incomes, benefits and welfare increased by 8.8% on average annually during the 2012-2018 period.
