The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Plant Protection Department had received a report from Malaysia, saying that many batches of Vietnamese chilli pepper exported to the country were found with excessive pesticide residues. 

Malaysia has suspended chilli pepper imports from Vietnam since mid-September over concerns about pesticide residues.

The Plant Protection Department has requested Vietnamese exporters to strictly conform to food safety and hygiene regulations of Malaysia to avoid their economic losses as well as harming the country’s farm produce prestige.

Vietnamese enterprises are required to supervise the production and export of the product as well as implement preventive measures to ensure product quality.

The department has also been informed that some batches of Vietnamese papaw exported to South Korea detected to be a genetically-modified product. According to South Korean regulations, this kind of product needs to be destroyed or to be re-exported.
