Nghi Son Economic Zone set for 2035 six-fold expansion

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has just approved an adjusted plan for the Nghi Son Economic Zone by 2035 which will see a six-fold expansion in size.



Deputy Minister of Construction, Phan Thi My Linh gave the decision to expan the Nghi Son Economic Zone by 2035 to Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Dinh Xung on January 9


The approval was announced on Wednesday at a meeting between the Ministry of Construction and the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa Province.


The adjusted Nghi Son Economic Zone will have a total area of 106,000 hectares including 66,497 hectares land and island and 39,502 hectares of water surface, which is six times larger than its current area.

Nghi Son Economic Zone will include Tinh Gia District and three communes of Nong Cong District. With support from Nghi Son Sea Port, it is expected to become a key multi-sector economic zone of Thanh Hoa Province and the northern central region with focus on heavy industry. It will also become a services and tourism economic centre and help develop Nghi Son City and Hai Ninh, Yen My and Thanh Tan towns into smart cities.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Dinh Xung, said that the plan to widen Nghi Son Economic Zone by 2035 with a vision to 2050 plays a very important role in the development of the province.

"This will create opportunities for the province to best utilise its resources and attract more investment."
