Foreign visitors from 141 countries and territories accounted for 162,676 people, up 15%. Among those, South Korean travellers to the city grew up to 44% on-year with 11,981 people, followed by Malaysia with 38% and Taiwan with 28%.

This was followed by visitors from China, the US, the UK, France, Germany, Australia and Japan.

The department added that the capital city’s tourism sector pulled in total revenue of VND2.03 trillion (USD86.95 million) during Tet, up 33.3% against the same period last year.

South Koreans have been among the biggest groups of visitors to Vietnam in recent years, with more than 3.4 million arrivals last year, a 44% year-on-year increase, reported the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

A 15-day visa waiver for South Korean tourists to Vietnam and an increase in the frequency of direct flights connecting major cities in both countries have contributed to making Vietnam the number one choice for South Korean tourists.
