Danang slips in Provincial Competitiveness Index

The central city of Danang was ranked fifth in terms of the provincial competitive index (PCI) last year, compared to second place in 2017.

According to PCI 2018 announced by Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Danang scored 67.65 points against 70.11 points of the 2017 ranking.

The northern province of Quang Ninh topped the PCI 2018 with 70.36 points out of the total 100 points. This is the two consecutive years Quang Ninh has posted the first position in the ranking.

The runners-up were Dong Thap Province with 70.19 points and Long An Province with 68.09 points.

The capital city of Hanoi stood ninth, up four places compared to 2017. Meanwhile, HCM City ranked 10th.

Danang City dropped in the ranking to fifth from second in 2017.

The PCI 2018 surveyed more than 12,000 enterprises, including nearly 11,000 domestic firms across the country and 1,500 foreign-invested ones.

Conducted in 2005, the PCI is comprised of sub-indices to assess the efforts of localities to improve their business environments and administrative procedures.
