Vietnamese electronic firm, Asanzo, will be investigated after being accused of importing Chinese products resold as made-in-Vietnam products.

Asanzo's CEO, Pham Van Tam and workers check TV sets at their factory

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the Ministry of Finance to work with the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Industry and Trade and related agencies to investigate the case. The ministries will review the management process and clarify individual responsibility.

The ministries were ordered to report back to the PM by July 30.

The case was first reported by Tuoi Tre Newspaper. Asanzo was accused of replacing Made-in-China with Made-in-Vietnam stickers on their TV sets. The High-Quality Vietnamese Product Business Association then revoked the Vietnamese High-Quality Goods title given to Asanzo, saying that Asanzo lied about the origin of their products.

However, Asanzo's CEO Pham Van Tam denied the claim. He said the company imported 70-80 percent of the parts from China and the rest were from Vietnamese firms. The Made-in-China sticker was already on a component of the TV and it's not for the completed product.

On June 24, the HCM City Department of Industry and Trade submitted a report to the Ministry of Industry and Trade about the case. According to the report, the department has asked the High-Quality Vietnamese Product Business Association to explain why the title was given to Asanzo. They haven't received any complaints from the customers.

Asanzo products are being sold at 143 locations in HCM City.
