HCM City metro projects to lag behind schedule

The Department of Transport has submitted the report about Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien and Ben Thanh-Tham Luong metro projects appraisal and adjustment.

According to the department, the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien will be completed in 2021 instead of the expected 2020. Previously, they had asked the Politburo to adjust the investment and changed the completion date to 2020, however, the Ministry of Transport hasn't provided feedback on the adjusted plan. Moreover, they also haven't completed the dossiers on capital appraisal and capital balancing capability.

The Department of Transport asked the HCM City Management of Urban Railways to prepare documents and work with the Department of Planning and Investment to quickly complete the dossiers.

Regarding the Ben Thanh-Tham Luong Project, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Finance still haven't issued any decision about investment.

The project evaluation progress is still behind schedule and continually adjusted. It is estimated that the completion date for the Ben Thanh-Tham Luong Project will be in 2026 instead of 2024.

At the meeting about HCM City's economic, cultural and social situation in the first eight months, the Vice Chairman of HCM City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan said the two metro lines' capital adjustments had been approved but the procedures needed to be completed. All processes are expected to be completed in late September.
