VCCorp has announced that the pilot version of its VND700bn (USD30.1m) Lotus social network will officially be launched on September 16.

The news was announced at the press conference on September 9. It is hoped that Lotus could have 60 million users.

Nguyen The Tan, VCCorp’s general director said the project would attract users with diverse and quality content which would make Lotus different from other networks. Over 500 content creators in various fields such as education, lifestyle, and economics have been invited to work on Lotus.

Tan said they would create a more favourable working environment for the creators and users. They also approached celebrities in different fields to make the content more diverse and attract more users. There are nearly 100 commitments made for Lotus' content.

"On Lotus, everyone will be the creator. We'll provide tools so that the users can easily make fresher, livelier and more beautiful entries," Tan said.

The revenues will come from advertisements managed by VCCorp’s Admicro system. It is promised that there will be incomes within a month after Lotus starts working stably. Tan said there would be other revenue-generating ways.

Instead of getting friends on Lotus, the users will follow a source of information or a topic. VCCorp is calling for an additional VND500bn for the social network’s long-term development. In the first phase, VCCorp hopes to attract four million users, and 20 million users in the second phase and 60 million users in the last phase.

Another made-in-Vietnam social network, Gapo, was launched last month.
