Vietravel Airlines, owned by Vietnam's leading tour operator Vietravel, has designated Livio Arizzi, an Italian pilot, as the company’s deputy general director.

Arizzi, who is an experienced pilot with more than 20,000 flying hours, will be responsible for Vietravel Airlines’ international relations activities.

Vu Duc Bien, general director of Vietravel Airlines, said the carrier is waiting for the prime minister’s approval for an air transport business licence. The firm's first flights are scheduled for November next year.

Vietravel Airlines will mainly focus on charter flights.

Vietnam has fewer airlines than regional countries, including Thailand. So, this is also a great opportunity, Bien claimed.

Vietravel Airlines plans to hire foreign pilots right from the initial operation period rather than luring those from other domestic carriers.

Arizzi will be also in charge of seeking and buying aircraft and for employing qualified foreign pilots for Vietravel Airlines.

The carrier will use Phu Bai International Airport in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue as headquarters.

The company will conduct both domestic and international flights, including those to Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia.
