The authorities agreed on strict punishments over individuals and organisations related to the case.

The General Department of Vietnam Customs proposed the fine of VND40-60 million (USD1,724-2,600) for World Auto Co., Ltd., the importer of the car. Meanwhile, Volkswagen Vietnam Auto Co. will face a fine of VND20-40 million (USD860-USD1,724) for displaying it at the show.

The department will also inform the prime minister of the incident. The HCM City Department of Industry and Trade have also been asked to fine the organiser of the motor show.

The vehicle with the map will be confiscated.

Volkswagen Vietnam earlier admitted responsibility for this incident, saying that they did not carefully check the car. The company borrowed the car from Chinese partner Beijing-based Volkswagen Group Import Company Limited for Vietnam Motor Show.

Earlier, the film Abominable was pulled from Vietnamese cinemas for including a scene featuring a map which featured China’s so-called U-shaped Line in the East Sea.
