Many shops in HCM City have attracted fewer customers than expected for their sales on this year’s Black Friday sales period.

Tran Thang, owner of a fashion shop on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street in District 3, said he prepared a large amount of clothes for the Black Friday sales. He has offered a 50% discount on his products but has lured just a small number of customers.

Many shops in HCM City have attracted fewer customers than expected for their sales on this year’s Black Friday sales period.

The shop’s revenues were up some 30% higher than usual, Thang revealed, but most of the interest was in old stock with discounts.

According to Thang, his shop’s revenues in 2017 were 100-120% higher than usual. But, the figure sharply dropped since 2018.

A menswear shop in HCM City advertises products for VND199,000 (USD8.65) down from an original VND400-500,000. However, the actual discount only applies to black T-shirts which look quite old.

A footwear seller on Nguyen Trai Street, District 5, said that her shop’s revenue this Black Friday sales period was VND17-18 million compared to an VND15 million.

The same situation has also been seen at many other fashion and footwear shops in HCM City.

Phuong Thao from Binh Chanh District said that previously she used to hunt for Black Friday sales to buy her favourite products. But, in reality, most of discounted products are unpopular items. So, she now does not want to spend much time on this.

“Now, I usually book my favourite products on their official websites to save time, instead of rushing to overcrowded shops for the sales,” Thao added.

An array of fashion shops in Hanoi are inviting customers to buy their products with the big sales of up to 80-90%. However, many customers have been left disappointed by most of the products being from last season, and new items are just offered at 5-10% discounts.

Some shop have claimed 90% discounts but in fact, the highest discount is just 50%.
