The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) has submitted a new airline project to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc for consideration.

Thien Minh Aviation JS Company will invest VND5.5 trillion (USD239.13 million) in KiteAir.

KiteAir will operate as a low-cost carrier which is expected to launch its maiden flight in the second quarter of 2020, using 30 aircraft until 2025, including ATR 72s and A320/A321s or similar aircraft. Among those, six ATR 72s would be bought in the first year of operation.

KiteAir will use ATR 72s for its flights

The projected airline will mostly operate on domestic routes from Central Vietnam to south-central Vietnam and in the southern region instead of launching flights between Hanoi City, HCM City and Danang City.

It will focus on flights from HCM CIty to Con Dao and from Hanoi City to Dien Bien, Vinh and Quang Nam. Each week, scores of flights will be launched in the local market.

Kite Air is set to be headquartered at Chu Lai Airport in the central province of Quang Nam Province’s Nui Thanh District.

According to the project investor, the airline would make profits from 2023.

The investor added that at present two regional airlines the Philippines’ Cebu Pacific Airways and Thailand’s Bangkok Airways are using ATR 72s and A320/A321 airplanes for budget flights quite successfully.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport agreed on the section of Chu Lai Airport for the carrier’s base and Danang International Airport’s for parking its airplanes overnight for the first two years of operation. The airports for KiteAir’s airplanes for the following years are Noi Bai, Cat Bi and Van Don.

Thien Minh Aviation JS Company said that the firm can guarantee sufficient staff for the carrier’s operation.
