Vietnamese airlines will provide more flights at night to meet higher demand as Lunar New Year nears.

Some airports in Vietnam are facing overloading, particularly Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat international airports, so many domestic airlines will have to operate night flights to deal with the situation.

Head of the CAAV Dinh Viet Thang, said that air travel demand has been forecasted to grow by 12% on-year to around 12 million passengers. The agency is arranging flight slots, including many flights after 9 pm. The department has also asked Airports Corporation of Vietnam for reducing airport services for added night flights.

"We have instructed airlines and airports to ensure staff for Tet activities,” Thang said.

For night flights, it is easier for passengers to book tickets with lower fees as well as help to shorten time for them to complete check-in procedures.

Bamboo Airways will increase night flights, including those from Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Hanoi, Vinh and Haiphong.

The CAAV has asked to restrict number of people who come to airports to say goodbye and pick up their relatives, especially at Tan Son Nhat International Airport which is expected to welcome 3.4 million passengers this year with 25,000 flights this occasion.

Airports need to regulate traffic to mitigate jams and tighten control over security.

Passengers are advised to come to airport early for their check-in as big airports often face congestion on Tet.
