Demand for locally-made products has considerably increased on the Lunar New Year in the past two years.

It is easy to see numerous kinds of Vietnamese goods at big supermarkets in the capital such as Big C, Aeon Mall, Lote and Mega Mall, ranging from confectionery to processed foodstuff such as sausage and meatloaf.

Enterprises in HCM City are expected to spend VND19 trillion (USD826 million) on goods production and reserves for Tet, a sharp rise against last year.

Nguyen Tien Vuong, deputy general director of Hanoi Trading Corporation, said that Vietnamese products have seen design and quality improvements.

According to Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, director of Co.opmart Ha Dong Supermarket, the Co.opmart system has 124 branches in which Vietnamese goods account for up to 98%.

"Sales of Vietnamese goods have surged since the New Year, particularly regional and local specialities. The demand for Vietnamese products increase 10-40% on-year on Tet," she said.

Do Quoc Huy, marketing director of Saigon Co.op, said that his firm always prioritises Vietnamese products to ensure that they make up more than 90% of its supermarket goods.

Most Vietnamese confectionery at Big C Thang Long Supermarket in Hanoi are locally-made with eye-catching design by popular names such as Kinh Do, Bibica, Orion and Vinamit.

Tet sales of goods this year are expected to reach around VND31.2 trillion (USD1.35 billion), up 10% on-year.
