Bac Lieu Province granted investment licence to the largest foreign-invested project in the Mekong Delta

The investment policy decision granting ceremony for the Bac Lieu 3,200MW LNG Power Plant Project in the Bac Lieu LNG Thermal Power Centre was held on January 21.

The project includes a 3200MW liquefied natural gas-fired power plant which will be built on a 40ha land in Vinh Hau A Commune. There will be a floating LNG gas storage unit or a floating storage regasification unit that has a capacity to store 150,000 to 174,000 cubic metres of liquefied natural gas and 35km of pipelines.

Delta Offshore Energy Pte. Ltd. from Singapore is the project's investor besides partners from the US and Norway. The estimated investment is USD4bn. This is considered the biggest FDI project in the Mekong Delta up to date.

The investor must set up a Bac Lieu Clean Energy Company for the project and promise to follow the schedule to produce electricity from liquefied natural gas, store the gas and providing fuel for other LNG thermal plants in Bac Lieu.

The project will be carried out in different phases and is expected to complete in late 2027.

Bac Lieu People's Committee chairman Duong Thanh Trung said this was the key project for the province which would help boost local economic restructuring, create thousands of jobs and contribute to the state budget when the plant went into operation.
