Grab Vietnam has continued to support the local government and public in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic in the country.

Presenting thousands of face masks

From late March to early April when the whole country has made great efforts to fight the Covid-19 epidemic, Grab has also participated in various activities including its financial donations of VND70 billion (USD3.1 million) for the government and partners.

Of the donations, VND2 billion was sent to the government's anti-epidemic agencies. Taxi drivers were given financial support to help minimise their risk. Restaurants especially GrabFood's partners also received support.

Grab also sent financial supports to help volunteers who are contributing in the virus fight nation-wide.

Earlier, Grab Vietnam launched the Safer Everyday project which presented face masks to 33 medical centres in seven northern border provinces. The donation also consisted of 50,000 face masks and 30,000 safe kits for its drivers.

Besides, the company sent 100,000 face masks to local people in the seven border provinces including Dien Bien, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Lang Son, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, and Quang Ninh. This will help local people protect their health during the epidemic.

Grab also helped the Ministry of Health transport 165,000 face masks to these areas.

Grab have also co-operated with social website Lotus to set up a news channel about the Corona virus which updates useful information for the public, especially drivers and restaurants partners.

Sharing about those activities, Grab Vietnam's CEO, Nguyen Thai Hai Van, said that it was an honour for Grab to work with the Ministry of Health in the fight against the epidemic.

"This is our social responsibility and also a commitment to our carrying out our community mission she said.

"Besides applying IT to improve people's lives, Grab understands that participating in social activities is also an important task of an enterprise. In the coming time, Grab will launch many new initiatives with more useful activities to improve the lives of people."

Financial support for drivers

Grab recently approved VND3 billion in support for its drivers infected with SARS-CoV-2. Grab has so far been the only ride-hailing firm in Vietnam to have such policy.

Since the first days of the virus outbreak, Grab instructed drivers how to protect themselves, their relatives and customers. The company gave 50,000 face masks and 30,000 safety kits to drivers of GrabBike and GrabCar. Each kit consists of gloves and hand-wash.

Over the past six years operating in Vietnam, Grab has tried to improve its services to better serve customers and enhance the income of drivers.

In 2019, Grab announced its community mission with targets similar to the government's Socio-economic Development Plan for 2020, including reducing poverty, building a skilled labour force, and creating a sustainable environment for the future. One of the company's latest activities is the Bridges to Schools project which was jointly carried out by the Vietnamese Child Protection Fund, with the first bridge opened in Vinh Long Province in early 2020.

All these activities showed that besides doing businesses and creating jobs, Grab is among leading firms in doing a more important work that is supporting the government and community to overcome hard times, including the current Covid-19 epidemic.
