HCM City plans another metro project

HCM City has planned to build another metro line project valued at VND39 trillion (USD1.66 billion) in the first phase.

The first phase of metro line 5 linking Bay Hien junction in Tan Binh District to Saigon Bridge in Binh Thanh District is expected to be carried out between 2025 and 2029.

The Management Board of Urban Railway reported that the feasibility study about the project is being considered by authorities. After that, it will be submitted for the prime minister and the National Assembly.

The first stage of the line will run along many streets such as Hoang Van Thu, Phan Dang Luu, Bach Dang and Dien Bien Phu streets and be connected to other metro projects of the city.

The Spanish consulting firm IDOM said that the first phase will be around 8.9 kilometres long with 7.46 kilometres put underground. It will have eight stations and is scheduled for operation in 2030.

The second phase will travel from Bay Hien junction and new Can Giuoc Station. The Urban Railway Management Board is calling for this investment to be carried out under the public-private partnerships.

HCM City has approved the planning of develop eight metro routes with a total length of 220 kilometres and a combined investment capital of USD25 billion. Construction is underway for Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien and Ben Thanh-Tham Luong lines, using ODA.

The city has proposed the construction of the Ben Thanh-Tan Kien line which has total investment of VND68 trillion (USD2.95 billion).
