Many people in HCM City are reluctant to find new jobs due to fears of difficulties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic even though recruitment needs have increased in March and April.

Recruitment needs in March and April increase

Tran Thi Thu Tuyet from Cu Chi District said she spent three hours on the road commuting to work. After giving birth, the long hours of commuting became a downside. She then decided to look online for advice.

"I'm an accountant at a local school for VND7m (USD301) a month. I want to find another job but I'm afraid that if I quit now, it will be difficult to find a suitable one. Should I quit?" Tuyet said.

Her post received nearly 100 comments. Some people agreed that Tuyet should switch jobs but many people told her to think carefully and only quit when she had already secured a new job.

Statistics from HCM City Human Resources Forecast and Labour Market Information Centre show that 44,000 positions were needed in the first quarter, the recruitment needs rose by 13.14% compared to the same period last year.

Even though the market is recovering well, employees are still reluctant to leave their jobs.

Le Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, an HR director, said "People are more concerned about stability and insurances. The future at a new company is unsure so staying in an environment they are already used to seem like a reasonable choice."

Thanh went on to say that when choosing a new job, employees should take notice of bonuses, company culture or new directions and support policies. "It will decide whether you can develop your career or stick with the job," she said.

According to HCM City Human Resources Forecast and Labour Market Information Centre, even though the pandemic is still ongoing, the economy in HCM City has seen positive results as many socio-economic targets have been achieved compared to the previous year.
