The relocation will be carried out in two phases with the first phase from September until the end of 2021 and the second phase in 2022.

On September 22, the fish cages of Hoang Van Giang and Bui Van Hoa in Lan Ha Bay were taken and moved to another location. The farmers will receive financial support from the government. The authorities must make sure to remove all traces of fishing farms before returning the bay to Cat Ba National Park.

The authorities in Cat Hai District said they had held a meeting afterwards in order to work more efficiently and would continue to relocate other farms in the following days.

During the meeting session on August 12, Hai Phong People's Council approved the plan to relocate the fish farms and provide financial support to farmers. Hai Phong People's Committee said over VND68bn (USD2.9m) will be allocated for the plan.

Farmers that agree to have their farms relocated by January 1, 2023, will be given new facilities for fish raising worth VND24,600,000  and get support with fish selling. Cat Hai authorities said they had set up a team with 18 members to help farmers sell the fish during the relocation.

There are currently 440 fish farms located in Cat Ba Islands with 516 tents, 8,216 fish cages, 58,590 square metres of mollusc farms and 1,298 employees.
