Between January and September, Vietnam earned USD775 million from shrimp exports to the US, up 22 percent on-year.

The US was Vietnam’s biggest shrimp importer in the first nine months, accounting for 28 percent of the total, followed by the EU with 15% and China with 11 percent.

During the January-September period, Vietnam’s catfish fish exports to the US increased by 43 percent on-year to USD248 million, mostly frozen fillet products. The US was Vietnam's second largest catfish importer, just behind China in the first nine months of this year.

The US also topped Vietnam’s tuna import during the nine-month phase with USD226 million, up 8 percent on-year and accounting for 43.5 percent of the country’s total export value of tuna.

The seafood demand in the US has drastically risen as the local limited supply sources have been hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
