Authorities in the northern province of Bac Giang are seeking ways to help local farmers sell around 180,000 tonnes of lychee.

On Wednesday, the province cooperated with the ministries of industry and trade and agriculture and rural development and some Vietnamese agencies abroad to hold an online forum to boost lychee exports.

The event was connected to 13 foreign markets, including China, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand and the UAE.

Phan The Tuan, vice chairman of the Bac Giang Province People’s Committee, said that this year has seen more rain than usual, creating favourable conditions for lychee growing.

The province’s lychee output is expected to reach 18,000 tonnes this year.

Many participants at the event highly appreciated the quality of Bac Giang’s lychees.

The province hoped that Vietnamese representative agencies in foreign countries would help to further promote its lychee to the global market.

Bac Giang also asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to continue instructing the locality in growing and processing lychees to meet higher requirements from importers.

Nguyen Phi Thoan, director of JV Solutions Company, said that the firm had exported Bac Giang lychees to Japan for three years where it was product hugely popular.

Bac Giang is expanding its lychee-growing areas in line with VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.
