The plants are out in efforts to meet the high demands for the approaching Lunar New Year Holiday.

A variety of mai and bonsai trees are shown along such major streets as Hoang Van Thu St., Hoa Binh Boulevard, Huynh Cuong St.and more. This scene brings in more colors and rhythms for the atmosphere of welcoming Tet.

Bonsai trees attract many buyers this year.

Many places selling yellow mai in Ninh Kieu district say they have been brought in from Ben Tre Province. Shops and sellers are displaying yellow mai trees from Hoang Van Thu Str to Cai Khe River bank, which is estimated to be nearly 2 km long. One seller in Vinh Thanh village said that she brought nearly 1,000 trees here since the 9th of December (based on the lunar calendar) and will sell them until the last day of the year. She expected the number of trees sold tol be fewer than last year. As of now, she has sold just 500 trees, which are priced anywhere from VND 50,000 to VND 500,000.

Many sellers said that due to the hot weather recently, flowers of the yellow mai trees may arrive too early for Tet. Therefore, they must carefully observe the weather to know when its time to pluck the leaves, allowing the blossoms to bloom.

This year, the spring flower market in Ninh Kieu is being held as usual. This is the biggest annual flower market in Can Tho, selling many kinds of flowers and bonsai trees. At the moment, there are an abundance of flowers on display at the market but not many customers are wandering around to take a look. According to sellers, the demand of buying flowers will greatly increase from the 23rd of December according to the lunar calendar (which will fall on February 6th this year).

Pottery products are also readily sold in Can Tho. Hoang Van Thu St. has numerous places selling pottery products in varieties such as vases and bowls. One seller, Hoa, said that many of these pottery products come from Vinh Long while others come from several different locales and they are all priced quite differently. On August Revolution St., there are numerous places selling Chinese pottery products which range in models and prices. More interestingly, the sellers are applying promotions and discounting up to 50% for the Tet Holidays.
