Cai Rang floating market in Can Tho City is a splash of colour in the grey days ahead of Tet, with boats loaded with festive flowers for sale mingling with fruit sellers and clothing makers and water-borne food stalls, providing a unique visual treat for growing tourist numbers.

Thousands of boats begin gathering for the market from 4.30am and are busy by 6am as local farmers and crafts people trade their produce, attracting tourists who come to learn about one of the Mekong Delta's unique customs.

Le Minh Son, the deputy director of Can Tho Province's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the floating market was special to the city and more would be done to enhance its attraction as a highlight for tourism.
