Thang Long Imperial Citadel to become cultural and historical park
Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi will become a Cultural and Historical Park, under a detailed project for conserving, restoring and promoting its values.
It aims to build a community cultural space with harmonious landscapes and architecture, as well as ensure technical infrastructure of the overall area of Ba Dinh political centre.
After the plan is finished, the ancient citadel will stretch from the Flag Tower (on Dien Bien Phu Street) and the North Gate (on Phan Dinh Phung Street). The newly constructed and not important buildings will be dismantled or moved. In addition, protection plans for the archaeological site at 18 Hoang Dieu Street will be implemented and artifacts will be displayed there.
The Thang Long Imperial Citadel has a history spanning 13 centuries and was the political nerve-centre of numerous dynasties including Ly, Tran, Le and Mac. The architecture and ruins found here show the development of Vietnam, particularly the capital of Hanoi, over the centuries.
The Imperial Citadel was recognised as a national special relic as well as a world cultural heritage with outstanding historical, cultural and architectural values.
The implementation of the project has an important significant, contributing to promoting the unique cultural, historical, artistic, urban archeological values of the nation as well as raising public awareness of preserving heritage in the country.
The Ministry of Construction hands over the project to the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee.
The project was announced by the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee and the Ministry of Construction on April 19.
The project comprises three parts: a planning schedule, a plan for conservation, and a regulation on the management of investment and construction.It aims to build a community cultural space with harmonious landscapes and architecture, as well as ensure technical infrastructure of the overall area of Ba Dinh political centre.
