French President visits Hanoi Old Quarter

French President Francois Hollande early this afternoon, September 9, paid a visit to Hanoi's Old Quarter during his on-going visit to Vietnam.


Hollande, who arrived in the city early in the morning, was accompanied by some former Vietnamese students in France including Maths Professor Ngo Bao Chau.

 

The French President walked to visit the Kim Ngan Pagoda in Hang Bac Street. He also dropped into a cafe and a small souvenir shop in an area with French colonial architecture.


Many local people here gathered to greet him.


A member of the French delegation to Vietnam said that President Hollande wanted to visit the Hanoi Old Quarter to learn more about the culture and people of Vietnam.


Earlier in the morning, Hollande had met with Vietnamese top leaders, spoke at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi and attended the signing ceremony of various co-operation agreements between the two countries.
