Hoi An continues to expand walking area

The ancient city of Hoi An will continue to expand the town zone for pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles in an effort to cope with the increasing number of tourists.

The expansion covers the area located from Tran Phu Street to the crossroad between Nguyen Hue and Phan Chau Trinh, including total Tran Phu, Nguyen Hue, Cong Nu Ngoc Hoa roads and the road along Hoai River.

According to Vo Phung, Director of Hoi An city’s Culture and Sports Centre, visitors can enjoy cultural and art performances and traditional folk games here and buy fine arts products.

Earlier, the city also expanded the town zone for pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles at Nguyen Phuc Chu street. The street is located to the south of the Hoa River along Hoi An Statute Park and Nguyen Hoang night market, which attracts a large number of tourists.

The project of the town for pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles has been executed since 2004. Its initial purpose was to bring down the noise level of motor engines and ensure travelers’ safety. So far, it has become a typical cultural tourism icon of Hoi An that has greatly contributed to the promotion of culture - tourism of Hoi An.

Located in the central province of Quang Nam, the ancient town has many temples, pagodas and old houses. Hoi An was a leading trading port in Southeast Asia in the 17th and 18th centuries.
