Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary to host a sculpture park
The central province plans to build a sculpture park in the Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary to honour people for their contributions to preserving and restoring its cultural heritages, earning them the UNESCO recognition.
The Chairman of Duy Xuyên District’s People’s Committee, Nguyễn Công Dũng said that the park will be designed as a destination for tourists when visiting Chăm towers complex in Mỹ Sơn.
‘We have been collecting opinions and ideas in making an official design for the park. It will serve as a part of introduction of the Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary and history of preservation of the heritage,” Dũng said.
“The best design will be selected for commencing the park later this year,” he said.
Dũng said the first four famous people featured in the spark wil be French archeologist Henri Parmentier (1870-1949), Polish archaeologist and architect Kazimierz Kwiatkowski, known as ‘Kazik’, former party secretary of Quảng Nam-Đà Nẳng Province (now Đà Nẵng city and Quảng Nam Province) Hồ Nghinh (1915-2007), and Nguyễn Xuân Đồng (1907-86).
A 2.5m tall statue of Kazik has been installed at 138 Trần Phú Street in Hội An Town to honour his work on restoring the ancient town of Hội An, Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary and Complex of Huế Monuments.
Quảng Nam has also planned to build a garden of statues in the Tam Kỳ Museum to honour 33 famous natives.
The UNESCO-recognised Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary, 70km southwest of Đà Nẵng, hosted nearly 200,000 tourists, including 155,000 foreigners, in the first half this year.
Environmentally-friendly battery powered cars are being used to serve tourists visiting the Chăm towers.
