Winners of the Vietnam Heritage Photo Awards 2017 were announced at the award ceremony of the contest, held by Vietnam Heritage Magazine, in Ho Chi Minh City on November 21.

"Ve dich” (Heading to the finish line) by Ngo Minh Phuong wins the first prize of Vietnam Heritage Photo Awards 2017

The event is part of activities to celebrate the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day, which falls on November 23.

After five months of launching, with over 3,400 works submitted, the organising committee voted for 16 best photos by authors from provinces and cities across the country, featuring the richness and diversity of Vietnam’s cultural heritages and human life, while expressing the love the photographers have for their country.

Speaking at the ceremony, photographer Hoang Trung Thuy, chairman of the contest’s jury, praised the quality of the submissions, saying that the works participating in this year's competition were in line with the contents set by the organising committee, with eye-catching style depicting the elaborate and professional shooting by the authors.

Particularly, in the “Life” category, the most attractive theme of this year's contest, the authors have described the unique diversity of life with strange corners and exciting findings. Meanwhile, in the "Market" category, a difficult topic, the authors also expressed the identity and characteristics of market culture, enriching heritages with many forms of markets across the country.

Three top prizes went to "Ke chuyen Ghe Ngo tram tuoi” (Telling the story of the one hundred year old Ghe Ngo - Khmer Boat) by Dinh Cong Tam, "Ve dich” (Heading to the finish line) by Ngo Minh Phuong, and “Xom chai Dam Chuon” (Dam Chuon fishing village) by Ha Van Dong. In addition, three second, three third and seven consolation prizes were also presented to both professional and amateur winners at the award ceremony.

The 2017 edition is the sixth annual contest hosted by the Vietnam Heritage Magazine to search for stories about the nature and culture of Vietnam, while calling for the attention of local and overseas communities to discover and share values of Vietnam's natural and cultural heritages.

This year's contest focuses on five themes, including Nature, Material Culture, Intangible Culture, Life and Market. With diverse themes and genres, professional and amateurs photographers had the opportunity to demonstrate the beauty of the country and the Vietnamese people in unique perspectives.

On this occasion, the organising board handed over 100 best photos from the contest to a community development charity supporting the construction of flood-resistant houses to organise auction for fund raising and support livestock farming by locals in areas affected by storms and floods.

On the same day, the exhibition for the 100 best works opened at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts, No. 2 Hoa Lu Street, Hanoi. Then, from November 22-23, the works will be displayed at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture and the Museum of Cham Sculpture Da Nang to promote the beauty of Vietnam to the community.
