A national paragliding contest will take place from July 13 to 17 at Son Duong and Dong Lam communes in Hoanh Bo district, northern Quang Ninh province.

The contest forms part of activities within the Ha Long - Quang Ninh National Tourism Year of 2018, the first Tourism Year in the province and organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in cooperation with the provincial Department of Culture and Sports.

Open to all Vietnamese and international paragliders, the event expects to promote the sport and Hoanh Bo district, which is suitable for paragliding. It will also help to promote local tourism and attract more investors in developing tourism projects.

About 100 paragliders from paragliding clubs all over the country will compete in both male and female categories.

With a diverse terrain of mountains, forests and deltas and different ethnic minority groups, Hoanh Bo is an ideal destination for different types of exploration, such as ecological tourism, adventure sports, trekking, and climbing, etc.

Popular sites include Man Mountain, the Dao Thanh Y ethnic minority people’s cultural reserve, and the Dong Son commune and Ky Thuong commune eco-tourism systems, marked by natural reserves, pagodas and temples, orchid farms, fruit orchards, wine making villages, and markets for agricultural products.

Several events are being organized at Hoanh Bo during the Tourism Year, such as a spring flower festival, a festival of the Dao Thanh Y ethnic minority people, temple festivals, and the national paragliding contest.

Quang Ninh has organized some 100 events this year, targeting about 12 million visitors, including 5 million international tourists. Last year it welcomed 9.8 million visitors, including 4.3 million foreigners, up 18 and 23 per cent year-on-year.
