Hanoi Museum struggling to bring in visitors

The USD2.3 trillion (around USD100 million) Hanoi Museum continues to fail to attract visitors during the eight years of operation.

The 54,000 square-metre building resembles an inverted pyramid with four floors. The museum was put into use in October 2010 after two years of construction and was among the projects to mark the city’s millennium celebrations.

Initially, it promised to be an attractive site for visitors, including foreigners. However, to date, it remains almost deserted even at weekend, despite free entry. The shortage of exhibits is cited as one of the main reasons for its failure.

Some of the displays have not yet been fully completed

Some rooms are still waiting for being added with exhibits

The management board plans to collect fees from late 2019, but this is unfeasible if no improvements are made

Stalls outside the museum which used to operate at the weekend previously have also closed
