Sao Mai Group started a project to renovate the historic site on Tuc Dup Hill in An Giang Province for tourism on January 10.

Tuc Dup Hill

Over 600 heroic mothers, veterans and provincial leaders attended the ceremony.

In the wars against the France and US, Tuc Dup Hill became a military base because of its dangerous geography with rough cliffs. As the US spent about USD2m munitions on the hill during the 128-day battle from November 18, 1968, to March 25, 1969, many people later called it Two Million Dollar Hill.

After reunification Tuc Dup Hill was allocated to several firms for tourism exploitation but none were able to successfully make use of the historic site with its intricate cave system and the items.

In late 2016, the Sao Mai Group became the site's investor and promised to spend over VND200bn (USD8.6m) on renovating the altars and the items in the caves that were used as a commanding office, clinic and common room. The group was awarded the Labour Order Third Class by the state president for its contribution to An Giang.
