Da Nang picks up ASOCIO Smart City Award 2019

Award recognizes central city's continuous efforts and clear orientation in building a smart city.
Within the framework of the ASOCIO Smart City Summit 2019 held in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 28 to 29, central Da Nang city received an ASOCIO Smart City Award 2019.

The awards have been organized by an evaluation committee of the Asia-Oceania Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) since 2017 to recognize and honor cities of member economies that have recorded certain achievements in building and implementing smart city strategies.

This year the awards were presented in six categories: tourism city, cultural city, agricultural city, ancient city, heritage city, and overall smart city.

The awards focus on five basic criteria: happiness index, smart infrastructure, online public services, economic growth, and education and development research.

The ASOCIO is an information and communications technology (ICT) association of Asia and Oceania established in 1984 in Tokyo, Japan, and is considered one of the most prestigious ICT organizations in the region.

It has 24 members: Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

It also represents the interests of more than 10,000 IT businesses with revenues totaling about $350 billion in the region.

The award recognized the continuous efforts and clear orientation of Da Nang in building a smart city. This will also be an opportunity for the city to reach out to regional partners to enrich experiences, ideas, and solutions to build a smart city that is suitable for economic and social conditions.
