The event, which is expected to bring together around 2,000 delegates during its plenary session, aims to collect initiatives and solutions to remove difficulties and create favourable conditions for Vietnamese tourism to develop.

Addressing the press briefing, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, said that Vietnam’s tourism is in a period of strong development with high growth in the number of tourists. Vietnamese tourism has also been honoured by many prestigious international organisations and awarded reputable and global awards. Most recently, Vietnam was honoured to receive four world tourism awards.

On the occasion of the summit, the VNAT suggested discussing and giving recommendations to the Government, ministries and sectors to resolve five major groups of issues, including managing destinations and improving the quality of tourism services, strengthening tourism promotion and advertising, facilitating immigration procedures for international tourists, expanding aviation connectivity and accelerating infrastructure development, as well as raising awareness and improving the quality of tourism human resources.

According to Tran Trong Kien, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board (TAB), the upcoming forum aims towards the goals of promoting sustainable development for Vietnamese tourism and enhancing national competitiveness, addressing the urgent problems on investment, advertising and attracting visitors from strategic and target markets, and realising the initiative of building a common aviation market, also called “ASEAN Open Sky”, with immediate priority to the Mekong sub-region countries (CLMTV).

The Vietnam Travel & Tourism Summit 2019 features one plenary session and four simultaneous thematic sessions. During the plenary session, delegates will discuss measures to develop Vietnam’s tourism and aviation industries, in addition to the signing of memoranda of understandings (MoUs) and cooperation deals, also the launching of two offices advertising Vietnamese tourism in the United Kingdom and Australia.

At the inaugural summit in Hanoi last December, five trade agreements worth approximately US$2 billion were signed between domestic firms and international partners.
