Hanoi will set up food streets in the Old Quarter in an attempt to improve services for tourists and preserve traditional culture.

Hanoi to form food area in Old Quarter

The project’s developer said the food area would encompass Hang Buom, Ma May, Luong Ngoc Quyen, and Hang Giay streets.

The project, still under consideration by the municipal government, is hoped to be completed this year, featuring dishes unique to Hanoi and other regions of Vietnam. More hygienic practices will also be enforced.

“We’ll hold training sessions on customer services for store owners to improve the quality of service in general and prevent any bad impressions for foreign tourists,” the developer said.

The residents along Hang Buom, Hang Giay, Luong Ngoc Quyen, Ma May and Ta Hien streets have opened several food stalls to serve customers in the evenings but their operations are still irregular. Food safety practices will be one of the focuses of the project.
