According to the city's vice chairman Ngo Van Quy, tourism will be set as one of the city's key economic drivers. The authorities hope the new development plan will help attract more tourists, enable longer stays and increase the returning rate.

At the meeting about Hanoi's tourism development, most attendees agreed that placing adverts on CNN was a good idea. The Tourism Department was assigned to create the plan to work with director of CNN in South East Asia.

The city will launch a pilot programme to set up new logo, signposts and products in the city centre and traditional craft villages such as Bat Trang and Van Phuc. The Tourism Department was also asked to gather opinions and complete the tourism action plan for 2016-2020 period.

The CNN is a 24-hour cable news. It was established in 1980 by Ted Turner and is owned by the Turner Broadcasting System division of Time Warner. It reports news, current affairs, politics, sports, opinions, features and business programming worldwide and is available in over 200 countries.
