The tourist town of Sapa in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai will stop receiving visitors on March 18-31 in order to help prevent Covid-19.

The provincial people’s committee has instructed the closure of local tourist sites, bars, karaokes and gaming areas between March 18 and March 31.

Tourists in Sapa

Le Tan Phong, chairman of Sapa Town, has asked localities to strictly obey the instruction. Local communes are required to keep a closed watch on tourists who are staying in the localities for quarantine and Covid-19 tests in necessary cases.

Authorities will conduct sudden checks to timely detect possible violations.

Any violator will be strictly punished in line with laws.

To Ba Hieu, vice chairman of Sapa Town Tourism Association, said that most of local hotels and tourism service operators supported the decision.

Earlier, many tourist sites in Vietnam such as Cat Ba Island in Haiphong City and Ly Son Island in Quang Ngai Province, Trang An in Ninh Binh Province and Ha Long City in Quang Ninh Province suspended the welcome of travellers to help Covid-19 virus prevention.
