Sapa hotels welcome large influx of visitors for New Year Holiday
Many hotels in Sapa Town have been fully booked for the New Year Holiday.
At Sapa New Hostel, visitors will have to pay VND500,000 (USD22) a night, about VND200,000 higher than normal. Employees at Sapa New Hostel said they only had rooms for the night of December 31 so visitors would have to check out to other places if they wanted to stay in Sapa for more than one night.
Two-star Sapa Odysseys Hostel said they already ran out of rooms. The price for staying one night is from VND1.5m (USD65) to VND1.7m. Little View Homestay also said all rooms had been booked. Most accommodation facilities in Sapa charge visitors 30% more than usual during the New Year Holiday.
The New Year Holiday will last three days and with cold weather, many people want to go to Sapa to see snow and frost.
Hoang Van Tuyen, chairman of the Lao Cai Province Tourism Association, said because of Covid-19, local firms in Sapa had launched many promotion programmes to boost the sector and attract more visitors so despite the surcharges, the prices are still reasonable at VND700,000 (USD30) to VND1m per night.
"Snow and ice are also one of the main attractions to tourists. More and more firms have gone online and are able to reach out to more customers with attractive combo packages," he said.
According to Tuyen, hotels near the town centre are likely all booked out. Only facilities in the suburbs still have room availability.
