Phu Quoc ready to reopen to tourists
Phu Quoc is planning to reopen to tourists as the Covid-19 outbreak is under control.
In order to control the outbreak, Phu Quoc authorities have strictly controlled four checkpoints at Bai Vong Port, An Thoi Port, Duong Dong Port and Phu Quoc Airport. All crewmembers bringing goods from the mainland to Phu Quoc were tested. All processes including loading, unloading as well as the members' schedule were monitored.
Phu Quoc People's Committee Chairman Huynh Quang Hung, said, "We have collaborated with the coastal guards to frequently patrol to prevent illegal migration."
After the fourth wave of Covid-19 broke out, Phu Quoc has lost 95% of its regular tourist visits. Phu Quoc has vaccinated 30% of its population. In order to boost the tourism industry, it needs 300,000 more doses for full coverage.
Hung said, "Detailed regulations will be issued if Phu Quoc is allowed to open to tourists. For example, tourists must be fully vaccinated and must be tested before and after arriving in Phu Quoc."
The provincial authorities are working with major firms like VinGroup and Sun Group to build plans to receive international tourists.
Nguyen Luu Trung, vice-chairman of Kien Giang People's Committee said the plan which was approved on July 15 was to give the first Covid-19 vaccine shots to all residents in Phu Quoc and the second shots from September 1. However, as the virus spread to many provinces and cities, Phu Quoc did not receive enough vaccines.
The authorities will continue to search and ask for more vaccines to reopen to tourists. It is hoped that by the end of the year, Phu Quoc would receive 2-3 million visitors.
