The granting ceremony was held in Muscat, Oman on Friday evening.
Tam Dao beat many rivals, including those in the US, Japan, the Czech Republic and New Zealand, to obtain the title for the first time.
Vu Viet Van, vice chairman of Vinh Phuc Provincial People’s Committee, said that this prize is expected to help promote Tam Dao to domestic and foreign visitors.

On this occasion, the World Travel Awards has also honoured four other localities in Vietnam. Specifically, World’s Leading City Break Destination went to Hanoi, World's Leading Nature Island Destination was presented to Phu Quoc, World's Leading Regional Nature Destination was awarded to Moc Chau, and Vietnam winning World’s Leading Heritage Destination.
Last year, HCM City, Hanoi and Hoi An won the World Travel Awards’ top regional honours.
The World Travel Awards, launched in 1993, acknowledge excellence in the travel and tourism industry, and have been described as “the travel industry's equivalent of the Oscars by the Wall Street Journal.
