The number of tourists to Sapa Town in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai has been forecasted to rise sharply during the coming New Year and Tet Lunar New Year holidays.

Ngoc Quynh, a local resident, said that visitors to Sapa have considerably increased recently, particularly at weekends. Many want to see frost on Mount Fansipan.

On hotel room reservation sites like booking.com, most hotels of 4-5 stars near the centre of Sapa have been fully booked.

According to an agent specialising in booking tours to Sapa, up to 80 percent of Sapa’s hotel rooms and homestays have been booked. However, room prices have kept quite stable, except for weekends when room prices are just a bit higher than on other days. The three-day and two-night tours have been sold the best.

Hoang Thi Vuong, head of Sapa’s Cultural and Information Board, said that Sapa is expected to welcome 120,000 visitors from December 20 to January 1, 2023.

The Sapa Snow Festival which started on December 23, included tours to see snow at Mount Fansipan.

Sapa will hold a ceremony for the first 120 first visitors to the locality on New Year's Day 2023. The figure symbolises the 120th anniversary of Sapa’s establishment.
