A fashion show of Vietnamese traditional long dresses or Ao Dai created by veteran Vietnamese designer Minh Hanh was recently held at the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland.

The show of brocade long dresses was organised at a ceremony to mark the 40th anniversary of Vietnam’s UN membership in Geneva which saw the participation of heads of national delegations and representatives of UN agencies, international organisations and the Vietnamese community in Geneva.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue also attended the ceremony.

Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue presented flowers for the artists.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the UN Duong Chi Dung welcomed the performance.

Through the collection, designer Minh Hanh wanted to feature the country’s diverse cultural identities through brocade of the country’s 54 distinct groups, showing a modern image of contemporary Vietnam.

The fashion show was framed by a bamboo background created by Tran Trong Linh, a Vietnamese painter who is living and teaching at a university in Switzerland and is famous for his unique compositions.

Famous pianist Pho An My also performed her most recent compositions inspired by the traditional folk songs of Vietnam’s ethnic Mong minority.

This is the first ao dai fashion show at the UN Headquarters.

Many famous Vietnamese models and artists participated in the show.
